This inventory management system requires a scanner that uses radio waves to communicate with an RFID tag. However, on a bigger scale, this method is expensive, time-consuming, and error-prone. By this RFID automating inventory system retailers can not only save their time and money but also increase operational efficiency. How RFID inventory system works? An antenna uses radiofrequency waves to transmit the signal and activates the signal transponder. When the signal is activated then the transponder transmits the data back to the antenna. It has many applications, for example, it is used in enterprise supply chain management to improve inventory tracking and also improve management proficiency. How many types of RFID Tags? There are two categories of tags, Active and Passive. It depends on tags that how they communicate with readers. Active RFID Tag Active RFID tags have their own battery and transmitter. In some occurrence, it can read ranges extend up 100 m. Active tags are costly and they are usually larger comparatively than their passive tags and are used to track cargo containers, vehicles, and machines. Active RFID tags are usually used as “beacons” to accurately track the real-time location of assets or in high-speed environments for tracking anything from wheelchairs at a hospital to large cargo containers at a shipping dock. Passive RFID Tag Passive RFID tags use electromagnetic waves emanating from the RFID reader for power. It has two main components the tag antenna and a microchip. There are passive HF, LF, and UHF systems. It has no internal power and it consists only of IC and an internal antenna. The reader sends energy to an antenna that energy is used to power on the tag and reflects energy back to the reader antenna. Passive tags are commonly smaller, cheaper, and flexible than active tags. It is commonly used for item-level tracking for consumer goods. Advantages of RFID RFID systems offer the quickest and easiest way to track products without having to count each individual item. It collects data automatically and vastly reduces human effort and error. It readers can read multiple RIFD tags at the same time. RIFD is cost-saving technology Disadvantages of RFID RIFD material liquid and metal can affect signal RIFD readers are typically more expensive in comparison of barcode scanners. Sometimes it is not good or exact as a barcode scanner. It tags may also suffer from interference problems. Managing all of that data can be a challenge for RIFD.
